Min-A-ViteŽ  is a great supplement for when your horse is not on pasture such as the winter months. It gives your horse the minerals and vitamins that the pasture would have provided.

Is Your Horse Drinking Enough Water This Winter?
It is important that your horse consumes enough water in the winter months, when the temperature dips down horses don't drink enough water because the water bucket is frozen over or the water is too cold. Imagine spending the day outside in cold weather and someone hands you a class of ice water. How much are you going to drink? Now what if they gave you a glass of water warmed to about 40 degrees? That's right you would most likely drink more.

Dehydration and impaction colic are more prevalent in the winter months  due to low water intake and humidity. Horses should consume around 12 to 15 gallons of water per day. Monitor your horses water intake and use a heated water bucket or a de-icer in your horses stall and pasture to keep the water temperature around 40 degrees. Your horses will drink more water and stay healthier.

Fuel for Your Horse
Do you adjust your horse's grain ration and the horse becomes either uncontrollable or calms down but doesn't maintain body weight or energy.  If you have either of these problems it is because your grain ration is probably a high carbohydrate diet. It is commonly thought that high protein causes a horse to become 'hot" but it really is a diet high in carbohydrates. This is why Blue Seal is making more feeds that are high in fat and low in carbohydrates.  You will be able to feed the proper amount of feed to maintain good body condition and your horse will have the energy to perform up to his potential. Blue Seal has several feeds that are high in fat and low in carbohydrates such as Hunter, Demand, Sport Formula, Vintage Victory, and Omegatin.

You can also try a high fat supplement but it is more preferable to use a balanced ration because when you start adding supplements you can very easily cause some other nutrients to be out of balance besides adding additional costs to your feeding program.

Know How Much You are Feeding?

Measuring a horse's grain by weight is more accurate than by volume, because each ingredient has a different density (weigh per volume). One quart of oats weighs 1.0 pounds while one quart of corn weighs 1.75 pounds. Feeding by volume alone can result in under or over-feeding.
